Greensburg's Main Street Memories

Demolition of Mountain View Inn

The historic section of the former Mountain View Inn, which was located along U.S. Route 30 near Greensburg, Pennsylvania, was demolished in November 2009 to make way for a new retail development. The newer wing of the inn was retained and will reopen as part of the new development called Mount View Village.

Mountain View Inn, which was built in 1924, opened during the golden era of the Lincoln Highway, which was an unpaved, two-lane road at the time. As the Lincoln Highway was constructed, many inns were subsequently built alongside the highway that stretched coast to coast. While many of these historic inns have closed through the years amid the Great Depression, not to mention many other factors, the Mountain View Inn was one of the last landmarks remaining from that great era.

The inn once hosted many notable figures throughout the years such as Harrison Ford and Tiger Woods. Its antiquity and historical status has made it a well-known fixture of Unity Township for many years.
